After the announcement of Paytm’s collaboration with ONDC ( Open Network for Digital Commerce ), Meesho also joins ONDC India. It is the latest eCommerce company that integrated with the ONDC to support the eCommerce establishment in India. This happened after Paytm, CoutLoot, Dunzo and Shiprocket joined ONDC.
Okay, you may be thinking that what is ONDC? let me clarify for you. our Ministry of Commerce and Industry launched the ONDC portal last year, which is the decentralized online shopping portal where everyone can buy and sell goods. It is the Open Network for Digital Commerce by the central government of India. This brings local retailers to online sales through this platform. Where the trial test started in Bengaluru with a minimum number of 2-tier sellers with the option of using a single-payer app like Paytm.
The one awesome fact is that Meesho is a homegrown ecommerce company which is located in Bengaluru it was founded in 2015 by Vidit Aatrey and now the company holds 50 lakh products and 650+ product categories. Meesho has been recorded with 8 lakh registered sellers from remote regions.
The one happy news is that Meesho has been starting its support from the pilot phase which is currently started in Bengaluru and in the future it plans to get to other places to give the support. The actual process to get through the access is that once you have been signed up with the ONDC and become the registered user then you can access all the products that are available in Meesho through the ONDC application itself. The ultimate motive is to help the local business.
The Founder and the CEO of Meesho officially announced that it will take part in the expansion of ecommerce in the future by making consumers buy online. Where the ONDC Chief Executive Officer T Koshy said that, In India, it is still a small percentage of online users, especially from remote areas. Meesho will help them to bring up the tier 2 business brands from the remote areas.
As Meesho has become one of the top 100 unicorns, it mainly focuses on the target audiences who would like to shop from small businesses. ONDC took the initial step toward the decentralized ecommerce system, which also plays a major role in the development of the ecommerce economy.
